A domestic tool inspired by objects of use. Borrowing features from utilitarian tools and other implements, this ladder is for use around the house; retrieving items from tall kitchen cabinets or dusting cobwebs from the ceiling.

This was my final university submission. After winning the Conran Shop’s annual New Designer’s award with this design, I spent a year at the company as a product development intern. While there, I developed my design and put it into production. It is currently produced in Portugal and is available in-store and online.

Inspired by shovel handle construction. A square section of green ash is cut down the center, steamed, and forced into a jig. In the first handmade version, the spring-back of this bend held the rung in place with no fixings.
