After many visits to the chair making workshops at Westonbirt Woodworks, I began to experiment with various green woodworking techniques. I came to appreciate the unique forms that come from riving and following the grain when using the drawknife.

As a means of highlighting this method of working with wood I recreated an Ercol stacking chair using this technique.The choice to remake an iconic wooden chair design is an attempt to focus attention on the beauty of the technique. By making something recognisable in a different way, the viewer comes to assess the construction and not the design.
